Ski bowl project - Developer inches closer to breaking ground. By Nancy O'Brien

NORTH CREEK -North Creek businesses and local officials are hoping that the proposal to build a ski village at the North Creek Ski Bowl won't hit many stumbling blocks.
FrontStreet Mountain Development has proposed building the Hudson Lodge, a private membership lodge for 100 families and 20 corporate members along with a cluster of town homes. Project Manager Mac Crikelair said the first phase of development would probably also include a 30 room inn.
"We're very anxious to get in and start the phase one construction during the off-season this year," Crikelair said. The company recently purchased an additional 75 acres, putting the total amount of land to be developed over 400 acres.
Crikelair also said FrontStreet had finalized its agreement with the town of Johnsburg on how the project would happen. "There were certain things that will have to be done such as the transfer of property and we are in agreement with the town on the proposed transfers and where things should go with the project," he said. "We've had an open book policy for every agency interested in this project and have had a lot of feedback from the park agency (Adjrondack Park Agency), ORDA (Olympic Regional Development Authority) and the town and everybody's excited."

"Gore is doing a Unit Management Plan (UMP) amendment to allow this to happen," said Johnsburg Supervisor Bill Thomas. "The developers will submit their proposal to the APA after the UMP amendment is approved at their March meeting."
Thomas said he recently met with the developers and said they are enthusiastic and anxious to begin the approximately $200 million project.
The Gore/Ski Bowl connection proposal envisions a new ski lift, new trails, additional snow-making and other amenities that would enable skiers to travel back and forth from Gore to the Ski Bowl, which is located less than one mile from Main Street in North Creek. The proposed expansion is included in that UMP amendment for Gore Mountain.
Thomas said Congressman John Sweeney has secured the money necessary for a soft start at the Ski Bowl, allowing ORDA to put in a new lift and operate it for night skiing. APA approval is not necessary for that section of the project, but is necessary before the Ski Bowl and Gore Mountain can move forward on the connection.
Crikelair said the next phase of the project depends on the status of funding from the state to put in two new ski lifts and cut new trails to connect the area with Gore Mountain.
“Should the state fund these two lifts and a full connection, then our development will move very quickly," Crikelair said.
