Governor George Patacki, Senator Betty Little and Assemblywomen Teresa Sayward visited the North Creek area on Friday, December 16th 2006 to announce a $7 million expansion at Gore Mountain Ski Area. A large number of community members attended the formal announcement on Friday for the special announcement from Pataki. The added expansion will enable Gore Mountain Ski Center to boast having the eighth-largest vertical drop in the eastern United States. An additional $5.5 million was announced earlier in the month from Senator Betty Little for the connection from Gore Mountain to North Creek Ski Bowl which will allow Gore Mountain Ski Center to boast having the sixth-largest vertical drop in the eastern United States. Also announced was an expansion of the rail line connection between Saratoga Springs and North Creek. With the upgraded rail lines the community will continue to have an increased economic growth. These announcements are very exciting for the local communities as stated by Gore Mountain General Manager Mike Pratt.
